no wired network connection

Hi,

This is a new FC* installation. I have had FC4 and FC6 on this laptop and have never had wired n/w connection.

After FC8 installation I no longer have wired n/w or wireless connection. I always get no link present check cable. I know it worked with FC6.

I have a Marvell Fast ethernet controller on acer 5570z. I have not even done a system update. Please help. This is critical

Thanks
Regards
Jimmy

First thing. As user root, use the command:

/sbin/lspci

to see what exact card you have, and then see in this forum about how to install it.

Wireless:

Add livna repository if you don't have them added already.
At the command line

rpm -ivh http://rpm.livna.org/livna-release-8.rpm
rpm --import http://rpm.livna.org/RPM-LIVNA-GPG-KEY

Then:
yum install kmod-madwifi

echo "blacklist ath5k" >> /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist

Reboot

Wired:
Take a look at dmesg | grep eth0
also /sbin/ifconfig eth0

/sbin/lspci says

02:00:0 Ehternet Controller: Marvell Technology Group Ltd. 88E8038 PCi-E Fast Ethernet Controller (rev 14).

My etho is not even recognized with or w/o Network Manager. I still have not been able to do a system update after the fresh install. How do I know if the drivers are installed ? Where can I find the drivers. Plz help

Jimmy

Use "system-config-network", and check the Hardware tab, check that your ethernet is listed. If you don't have this tool, try "setup" and chose Network Configuration tool and see if it shows the ethernet card.

It shows up as eth0 (sky2) everywhere. I wish I had stuck with FC6. Any other ideas/comments?

THnaks

Wired Driver:

sk98lin Driver

No rpm you have to build it from scratch.

Did you get the wireless working?

Or you can use ndiswrapper (download from livna repo please!) and the windows driver located at http://support.acer-euro.com/drivers...k/as_3680.html

I had exactly the same problem with my wired conenction. The only thing that resolved it was doing an UPGRADE from FC7 to FC8 instead of a clean FC8 install. I think something accidently got left out of FC8. If you are ready to give up, you can give this a try.
