Question HP Officejet Driver

Hi everibody,

this is my 1st entry on FedoraForum, and hence quite unskilled

I got an HP OfficeJet Pro L7480 multifunction printer/scanner copier; the driver CD is of course for Windows only.
The previous driver (HP 5550) works but in B/W only and scanner is of course not supported.

Found a downloadable driver ( hplip-2.7.12 ) and downloaded successfully but does not install, goes on for 30 min or more, then i aborted it.

Any suggestion is welcome

I assume you downloaded the source code and went through the steps to compile. Was it actually scrolling all kinds of text in the terminal screen. If so then it was compiling and if you stopped it then it did not complete the compiling of the code. You need to wait till it is done then do the final step to install. Been a while for me since compiling HPLIP but some do take time to compile depending on it and the hardware you are using. There are newer hplip rpms out there like on http://rpm.pbone.net

OK, many thanks; tried several times with auto and manual installation but it does not seem to compile and keeps going on for several hours, which in my opinion is too long! Will try with rpm.pbone asap.

Why not use the hplip fedora package?
Code:
yum install hplip hplip-gui hpijs
Then run:
Code:
hp-setup
