Fedora 5 to 8 upgrade issues

Good Morning, I recently obtained Fedora 8. I am using it to upgrade a Gateway laptop that is currently running Fedora 5. When I boot from the Fedora 8 cd, it comes up with a panel that gives me several options, one is to install or upgrade an existing system. When I attempt to upgrade the system, the anaconda installer starts to run, it then runs fine until it starts to run the loader script, it sits there a long time (10 to 15 minutes) but eventualy it moves past it and askes me if I want to test the install media, I choose yes... the media passes the inspection, and it tells me it is ok to install media from the disc, I choose install...it then starts but hangs up... the last output to the screen in [stack]

Any idea's what is going on?
