Unable to install a upgraded kernel from kernel.org under fedora installation

Hi,
am trying to boot a new built kernel 2.6.22 from kernel.org. The kernel is built under the fedora 6 installation tools. When the new kernel boots it goes on to load the kernel however the ramdisk isn't able to find the volume groups i.e it ends up saying no volume groups found. and it hangs ... anybody here faced the same problem ... plz am looking for the help desperately.

i didnt know things would get this complicated after fedora took up from redhat ... good were the old days !!

I am not a kernel-compiler. Is there a reason you are compiling your kernel, rather than just using a regular update to get the latest available?

Kernel configuration is an art that requires extraordinary finesse and insight.
Most people will use the config* file found in the /boot directory from the fedora kernel.
Compiling a vanilla kernel thus configured will result in essentially the same thing as the fedora kernel.
Unless you have some specific need, and the specific configuration plan to meet that need, the main benefit of compiling a vanilla kernel, with its inherent risks and troubles, is that it is fun to do it.
If it isn't fun to do it or it doesn't solve a particular problem, it really doesn't have much of a payoff.

Many howto's can be found, when I searched for "kernel config make install", such as Simplest way to compile a kernel on Fedora

Fedora has an virtually automatic way of installing the latest updates to all your packages. There's a graphical installer (which I'm not familiar with) and there's yum on the terminal.

I wasn't aware that compiling your own kernel from vanilla sources was so much easier in Ubuntu.... :P
