Hallo dwaegerle

I do not know what you are mean with "direct". But i guess you mean an installation without a CD-ROM, an online update with yum.

I would do it step by step. FC6 -> F7 -> F8

see: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/YumUpg...4ad37ee37745b0

You can update the system alternatively with a F8 CD-ROM. There is a option in the installer. But it would be more like a new-installation without to override the user setting and data. (/home)

Hallo dwaegerle,

May I misunderstood you at all. Helpfully it helps if you explain exactly:
1. What did you download exactly to you desktop? (post the link)
2. What does "direct" direct mean?

Hallo dwaegerle

sorry I'm may be realy narrow mind. But you did download the kde-live-cd. And what else?

I guess the install media means: http://download.fedoraproject.org/pu...8-i386-DVD.iso
right?

To install Fedora the kde-live-media is enough. All the other applications you can add after the installation. Use the "add and remove software"-tool (pirut) or yum it self.

Is this the answer you are looking for?

Since you downloaded the ISO file, you need to burn it to a DVD. You could use k3b to burn the ISO to the DVD.

No DVD drive, no problem. Download the Gnome or KDE LiveCD and install from that or look through the forum for a link for re-spins, which include a full CD set. I don't have the link handy right now.

Edit: Yes, I do:

Then I would suggest doing a yum upgrade.
Code:
su
yum upgrade
You may have some dependencies you will need to resolve manually though. Yum upgrades are not usually recommended and will probably cause you other problems. If a yum upgrade doesn't sound good, then use one of the livecd's for a fresh install.

EDIT: Apparently I type slower then wayne.

Alright, I've just installed jigdo-lite on my server. That spin link you've provided has a lot of .jigdo links.

How do you know which one to pick from? Based on my understanding, the iso image is downloaded within the jigdo directory on the server box correct?
