Fedora 8 nvidia problems

After updating to kernel 2.6.23.9-85 and the installing the associated nvidia driver I now get weird graphical glitches appearing when shutting down. No text appears just blue lines over the screen. Has anyone else had similar problems? Also occurs if entering into init 3 from desktop. Changing driver to vesa fixes the problem.

Laptop specs: Compaq v6201au tl-60 geforce 6150 go
