Terminal Emulation and Internet Apps

Ok, I'm planning as I wait for the Final.

What I'm trying or wanting to do is what every other smart person is trying to do, get away from M$ !

My biggest 2 things are,

1- I need to have a Internet Browser that can do everything IE 6.0 can. What I mean is that it needs to be able to run web based applications. We do a lot of electronic parts catologs that use activex, micrographix, adobe, ect.

I'm thinking my only option for this would be vmware. But, I'm not sure.

2- I need to be able to Emulate a vt100 using telnet. This is for accessing an OpenVMS DecNet system. For some strange reason, I have been very unsuccessful in my atempts to do this for the past year. It would also need to be able to do keyboard mapping. ( Ex. F11 to F13 ). The only way I have been able to do some of this is by using wine and hyperterminal. But hyperterminal is flaky at best, and has no keyboard mapping. I also have to set 7bit ascii in hyperterminal, but haven't seen any thing about that in the man pages for rxvt, gtelnet, xterm, ect.

Any suggestions ?

P.S. All my attempts at this has been on Mandrake 9.1

TIA ( Thanks in Advanced )

1- You can run IE6 on top of Wine. If you really need ActiveX... But I wouldn't recommend it.

2- Maybe Mocha (http://www.mochasoft.dk/)?...

Gnome terminal emulates xterm which emulates vt102, according to the help. Main Menu > System Settings > Terminal or run gnome-terminal.

fjleal, Mocha works about like everything else I've tried. Not very well.
Thanks though.

Jman, I've tried all linux terminals I could find. Trying all options pertaining to terminal I was using. They seem not to be able to handle the escape sequences being sent to the terminal. Yep, I even tried ansi to no avail...
In windows, I just set vt100, 7bit ascii, telnet, host address, and I'm off.

Powerterm works for this, but I sure was thinking linux was capable without the use of other software. Maybe not.

tux, I'll check mozilla plugins...

Thanks for all replies..
