boot.log empty

I know this was removed a few years back, but I have a kernel that refuses to boot.

The whole system just reboots without a kernel panic so all the messages so scrolling by real fast.

Is there absolutely any way of getting boot up messages saved?

Dmesg doesn't cut it because I have only remote access to this box and to test the kernel I use grub's default once only feature.

As far as I know, there are only 2 really creepy ways to see (save?) ALL of the boot up messages.
1. make console messages go to some magical serial printer
2. make console messages go to some magical serial port

The necessary hardware and setup procedures have to be researched and the effort may pay off little for a lot of trouble, so I have never tried.

You can tell grub to boot to a lower level by editing the kernel line and appending a space and a 1.
I think you can alternately append a space and the word emergency.

Maybe you can get it to stop before it reboots -- whatever that may be worth.
