FC6: How to preserve some kernel versions while updating for a new one?

I noticed that when a new kernel version is available from FC6, it removes the 2nd-last kernel version (maybe more?).

I understand that keeping all the versions occupies some spaces. But I'd like to keep specific versions still active while updating to the latest ones because I need to stabilize my driver code before changing to the new kernel version.

Is there a way to tell FC6 not to delete any previous kernel version(s) while updating to a new one? In other words, I'd like to decide by myself when I'm finished with a particular kernel version.

In the following file you can change the tokeep line to how many previous kernels to retain
/etc/yum/pluginconf.d/installonlyn.conf.

[main]
tokeep = 2
enabled = 1

Now if you want to keep specific versions and not more than the total you have specified above then you need to use yum remove or rpm -ev the unwanted kernel<versions>.fc6. tokeep is not sequential it is total #.
But I don't think you need to worry about future kernel versions with Fc6 as it is now officially unmaintained. But, when you upgrade to the next version you will be prepared.

In newer versions of yum, the installonly pluggin has been merged with yum. See this thread:

Thanks for the info. I just wonder if it applies to kernel packages only, or if it applies to all packages?

In the latter case, would there be a way to signify only for kernel packages?

It only applies to the kernel versions.

When setting "installonly_limit" in yum.conf for the recent versions of yum you can specify which packages are to be installed only using "installonlypkg". Although the default is for kernel-*, one can specify any package name (man yum.conf).
