Gnome: Why I am Leaving You for KDE...

Dear Gnome,
Everything was so perfect when we first met. You were so easy to get to know and I felt like we really had something special. With compiz, you were so smooth and sleek. Now, however, I must admit the truth...I've been seeing another window manager. Please don't take this personally...you're still a great window manager and I'm sure you'll find someone new soon, but I feel I must leave you for KDE. KDE really gives me more of what I need...control. With you, I felt almost like I did with my X...XP. You just wanted to do too many things for me and made it hard for me to be independent. KDE understands that. KDE lets me have more control over my GUI. KDE is so powerful, yet I feel like he doesn't have to take up all of my resources. My relationship with you was becoming...draining. Don't worry, I'll keep you installed so we can keep in touch through some of your apps, but I think for now it's best for me to make KDE my default window manager. I hope you understand and I wish you the best.

Sincerely,
Your Ex-User

Oh brother, just what we need...another DE war...I started out in KDE and felt much like you do now. But I got to know Gnome a little better and, well...I am starting to dislike KDE a wee bit. But it's all OK though because Gnome is a big, bloated, pointy headed DE also...Try Xfce

Anyway, just kidding and all . I really need to give KDE more of a try; I haven't used it all that much yet. I'll probably try it seriously when KDE 4 is out. And I need to use XFCE more .

My, my!

That's the first time I've ever seen a dyed in the wool "Dear John" letter written to a WM/DE!

I needed a good laugh this afternoon. Thanks Red! <....>

funny letter, dude.

i've never really liked gnome a lot myself. i started using that cause it was default, and then moved to xfce, and lately i've been on kde only. i really like the control it gives, versus the bloat in gnome, and the lack of some features in xfce.

i'm still waiting for a stable version of enlightenment, never seen something so fast!

(That's Dudette, BTW). Well, normally I'd just shut down another KDE vs. Gnome thread since they've been done many, many times. But, it's Xmas and it's been awhile, so joust away folks! Gnome's gonna win anyway, but those 3-4 KDE fans are welcome to post too.

I would use KDE still if I could get compiz to work properly.

Yet, I agree it is Christmas and I plan on leaving some milk and cookies beside the 'puter for my little Gnome buddy who is chugging along just fine for me.

But in the new year......I am gonna try and mess with XFCE a wee bit more.

Ahhhh... Should be: yum groupinstall "GNOME Desktop Environment" Sorry about the lack of caps; with linux you have to be so precise.
