Problems with NIS Server after system reboot

Dear all,

I have NIS configured on my network. This enables a centralised login and users can store their home folders on the server. The server and clients are running on Fedora 8.

I recently rebooted the server and the clients failed to bind to it. After restarting the ypserv service twice there are no problems again.

> service ypserv restart
Stopping YP server services: [FAILED]
Starting YP server services: [ OK ]

> service ypserv restart
Stopping YP server services: [ OK ]
Starting YP server services: [ OK ]

This happens each time I reboot and I am concerned that it maybe a sign of something more serious.

It may also be worthy of note that I am also experiencing some strangeness with my internet. The server is also acting as a router. The clients can connect to the internet but the server cannot. This appears to be a name resolution issue as I can access websites via IP Address.

I was wondering if anyone has any ideas? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have been using Linux for 2 months and in a bit over my head.

Kind regards,

Luke

I actually managed to solve this problem 3 months after it began. I was using a cheap network switch (Dlink DES 1008d). I was experiencing all sorts of problems with network speed and NIS binding. I upgraded the switch and it works great.

I hope this helps somebody else.

Regards,

Luke
