Fedora 8 with Dell Vostro 1500

Hi, i am a totally newbie for Fedora. I just bought a Dell Vostro 1500. Here is the spec:-

Intel Core2 Duo Processor T7500
Dell Wireless 355 Bluetooth Module
2GB (2 X 1024MB) 667MHz Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM
120GB SATA Hard Drive
NVIDIA(R) GeForce(TM) 8600M GT with 256MB GDDR2 dedicated graphic memory
Integrated 2.0 Megapixel webcam
Intel PRO/Wireless 3945 Dual Band 802.11a/g 54Mbps Wireless Mini Card

I know Fedora 7 faced a lot of issues but it can be solved.

Anyone experienced with any issue with Fedora 8?

I am downloading "Fedora-8-x86_64-DVD.iso", is it the correct version for my laptop?

Thanks!

hi, I will take your advice to install Fedora 8 i386 KDE.

I believe it will be faster than the x86 for Vostro1500.

Have you tried to install the x86_64 version of F8 on your Vostro?

Thanks.

Vostro 1400 w/ Fedora 8 works.

I have a Dell Vostro 1400 and am running Fedora 8 without problems.

Specs:
Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T5470 (1.6GHz, 2MB L2 Cache, 800MHz FSB)
14.1 inch Wide Screen XGA+ LCD Display with TrueLife
4GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHz, 2 DIMM
Intel® Integrated Graphics Media Accelerator X3100
120G 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive
Integrated 10/100 Network Card and Modem
8X CD/DVD Burner w/ double-layer DVD+R write capability
Integrated High Definition Audio
Intel® PRO/Wireless 3945 802.11a/g Wi-Fi Mini Card
Integrated 2.0 mega pixel Web Camera
2 Year Limited Hardware Warranty with Next Business Day On-Site Service
2 Year CompleteCare Accidental Damage Service
85 WHr 9-cell Lithium Ion Additional Battery
Total: $1,494.00

I had to download and install the intel915 driver for video and the intel3945 for wireless. Haven't tried the webcam (no desire to use it). Bluetooth works! I run F8 x86_64, Gnome, etc. VMWare Server with Win2k3 (with SQLServer 2000) guest, MacOS X (10.4) guest, two WinXP (Home/Pro) guests.

I even had Compiz running, but turned it off cause I find it distracting. Audio works with hardware buttons.

As much as I like AMD, I wanted to make sure that wireless and video would work.

I tried Fedora 7 originally but it wouldn't work. The install disc didn't have the piix driver required to see the Hard Drive! Fedora 8 install works. I used the live cd x86_64.

Have you had issues with the wireless? I had Ubuntu on it since Dell supposedly supports it, but the network devices keep disappearing. Running FC6 on my desktop issue free so was an experiment to check Linux on a laptop.
