Question newbie help with cd rom, soundcard

Hi I am new to this forum, and would first like to say Hi to all. I have a question, it has probaly been answered before, but I couldn't find anything in the search. I have fedora7 running gnome 2.18. My question is if I shut down and change out my cd rom for a dvd or cd writer will it recognize it on start up or is there something else I need to do? This goes for the sound card as well. I want to install a sound blaster and not use the on board. I haven't messed with linux in close to 8 years and things have changed alot. I installed on one of my older computers. HP with pentium 3, 512 MB Ram. any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

Geeve

Yeah, Linux these days is pretty good at autodetecting hardware. Before kernel 2.6 and the advances of udev, one would have to edit his or her fstab and check to make sure that the device names were correct. Until recently, setting up soundcards would have to be done through alsaconf, but now udev handles all that. Today, it really is plug and play.

I am very impressed with it. I almost have my wife convinced to change her XP system over. I installed thinking Crap I don't remember half the coomand line?! But so far all is good. Thanks for the reply.
