after upgrade to F8 only X-login, but failing to login, returns to login screen

I know, long title, but reading all topic headers like "help..." or "black screen, help..." or similar, I figured I give already more detail in the title.

I read multiple posts about upgading to F8, did yums and so on, the whole process went smooth, no errors at all (doing several suggestions as told from diff posts).

I had a small issue with grub not being on the correct boot drive, solved. So far no problem, but after reboot I get a graphical X login, no other options than username and password (after username filled and entered) and it returns to the login screen. Not ROOT or any account I created can go further.

Normally I boot into KDM.

After start up into level 3, I can login with any user, so they exist.

What went wrong ? I am not high into tech stuff but manage a bit after reading docs.


Also, I get a "disabled for 5 minutes message" after trying to login as root. Maybe I missed somewhere a rule as not being allowed to use root in Werewolf.

PS: like fedora a lot, started from fc3, but hey, maybe I'm just not smart enough to do it properly.

I got into level 3, yum updated to fedora and updates, about 500MB after yesterdays upgrade.

When I like to start X, it returns telling me :

no profile found for user "root" (translated from dutch),


even if I'm logged in as root

Need any kind of log files ?
