Internet Access

Need Help! I'm running FC2 on an AMD 1GHZ box. Plenty of RAM. FC2 is loaded in running just fine as a SMB server. I can browse our internal network just fine also other machines can browse the FC2 SMB server.

Here's the problem. This machine can't access the internet. It has a fixed IP and i've got the eth0 card settings identical (except for the IP address) to another FC2 machne.

ifconfig -a shows the eth0 card and all appears well.

When i ping an internal IP address i can get a response. When i ping an externat IP address i get "Destination Host Unreachable" but it looks like ping resolves the DNS name (it shows the ip address).

I'm stuck.....any help is appreciated!

Some websites don't respond to a ping, so pinging an external address isn't always a good test.

I would recommend doing a "traceroute" ("traceroute www.google.com") to see on which hop it is failing.

There are many possibilities.

Do you have a correct default gateway configured for that machine?

It is unlikely, but entirely possible, that you have a firewall in-between you and the internet and it is configured to block the address of your Fedora server from reaching the Internet.
