Probably not the place - small yum related issue
Code:
(1068/1242): vino-2.20.1- 100% |=========================| 398 kB 00:01
(1069/1242): fedorainfini 100% |=========================| 1.1 MB 00:03
(1070/1242): kdnssd-avahi 100% |=========================| 11 kB 00:00
(1071/1242): smart-update 100% |=========================| 8.6 kB 00:00
(1072/1242): perl-IO-Comp 100% |=========================| 135 kB 00:00
(1073/1242): pilot-link-d 100% |=========================| 166 kB 00:00
(1074/1242): nano-2.0.6-2 100% |=========================| 537 kB 00:01
On my 1280x1024 resolution that takes up about half the screen width. In all that I don't get to see the full names of the packages. Could it not be done that yum takes into account the resolution of the screen in how it displays the info?
How do I get this message across to the developers. I don't think Bugzilla is the place seeing as it is not an actual bug.

My resolution is correct and I get the same thing. I think it's normal. Just not enough room in the terminal. Try making the terminal full screen of hit CTRL/ALT/F6 and try yum from there.

Morning Jongi.
The best place to take this is probably the developers mailing list.

That'll get you the farthest I think.

Do I mis-understand the question? That's the result I see whenever I use yum. The filenames are sort of truncated, probably because the terminal isn't wide enough.

yes you misunderstand. i am saying that it should use up more of the terminal screen so that the names of the packages can be seen in full.

Wouldn't that be the case if the terminal was full screen?

you reckon i didn't try running the terminal in full screen mode? The answer to that is that that is output from a fullscreen terminal running on a screen at resolution 1280x1024.
Does fedora have a program like dpkg?

I got me one of those Fedora baseball caps from the good folks at the Redhat Swag store or whatever it's called. I'll wear that. Now if my webcam worked then I could take a picture of my beautiful mug while wearing the cap, but it's apparently non functional in Linux

I have a couple webcams around the house that I still haven't tried in Linux. I guess I'm afraid to find out that they don't work . I'll probably give 'em a go soon, though, since the latest Skype beta includes video support.

I guess there's some support for webcams in Linux. Mine's built into the laptop bezel. Ain't happening here.

I'd personally prefer yum to do this:
Quote:
.....
(1068/1242): vino-2.20.1-1.fc8 100% 398 kB 00:01
(1069/1242): libopendaap-0.4.0-2.fc7 100% 106 kB 00:03
(1070/1242): antiword-0.37-4 76% 610232 B 00:00
|
ie. get rid of the progress bar, replace it with the numerical % done
and use the saved space to show the whole filename.
