    Corrupted ISO Downloads

I have been trying to download the install iso for FC8 but I can't seem to get one that results in the correct md5sum. Anyone else been having problems?

I have tried the bittorrent link, download from a mirror using gwget and a download from another mirror using firefox, but all give the wrong, but same, md5sum upon download. I am now trying a download from the main fedora site, so we'll see if that works.

    Hello:

Fedora uses SHA1sum, which will not produce the same output as md5sum.

You are comparing the output of md5sum with the published SHA1sum, which is causing the confusion.

Thanks for that, was obviously having a very dumb moment! Just done a sha1sum and it is fine.

Was there any reason why sha1 is used rather than md5?

    Hello:
Don't worry, your not the first nor will you be the last with the same issue

I believe SHA1sum was chosen as it is more robust.

I'm sure RahulSundaram [another CM] could provide the definitive answer.
