ETQW - any other Fedora players (esp. in Oz)

Just seeing if any other fellow Fedora users are also getting into ET: Quake Wars!

Hands down the best online multiplayer shooter I've ever played.

If any aussies are around, should try to get a game online sometime. Maybe that way we can actually get some teamwork happening LOL!!!!!!! T

hat is probably the worst thing about the game - if your team doesn't want to play ball, it ain't going to happen. e.g. I was stuck in a game last night where you have to build a bridge to continue. 10 players per team, I was the only one willing to be an engineer. Stroggs had railguns covereing the build point, but no matter how much I begged, nobody wanted to provide any decent cover, and nobody wanted to be another engineer either.... you can't win can ya!!!!!

But minor gripe, love the gameplay, love the adrenalin, love the graphics, its the complete package.

Can't wait for the True Combat: Elite mod!!!!!! (u know its coming!!!!)

Most disappointed I've been in a game in a very long while. Got it boxed up and ready for eBay with less than 20 minutes on it

I guess it all just depends on what you're expecting from a game

thanks,

I'm really conflicted with this one. On one hand, its nice to have a game that works on Linux natively. On the other, its not an extraordinary game by any means; it doesn't do anything that hasn't been seen before. Polished? Yes. Good? Meh. I am still playing it (username eljoeb) but I couldn't tell you why. Its sci fi Battlefield. The level's aren't very different in terms of objectives either. Its like the same two ideas across 12 maps. But maybe it will grow on me.

Plus, what the hell is going on with VOIP? VOIP is integral to the enjoyment of a team based shooter and without it its... well, useless to me. And yeah I know, teamspeak. Whatever. The Windows users stopped using it once VOIP started working in game. Linux simply does not get a finished game.

Personally, as I don't play a lot of online shooters, its been a real blast. I love the tweaked ET mechanics and I think the sides are well balanced provided the are played properly. Nothing more annoying than having 4 or 5 field ops who don't call down a single arty strike, or being the solo engineer who is not getting any covering fire whatsoever. That's the game's achillies heel IMHO. That and they need to get rid of bunnyhopping, god its annoying and way too arcadey (I know a lot of old school quake players will beg to differ LOL).

Still, looking forwards to the True Combat: Elite mod that's GOT to be coming out hehehehe (the thinking man's counterstrike )

Anyway its a solid engine so the ball is in iD's court to keep improving the mechanics, more maps, etc.

well I prob won't see you online Eljoeb (latency to any non Australian servers is horrible and I'm sure vice versa) but if I do, hiya

Yeah seriously on the pings. They're easily 50% worse on my linux version. Most of the servers here in Texas are okay, but if its not in the midwest it gets easily over 100. Which is jerky as all heck. The Windows version on the other hand gets good pings all round. I know the installer mentions something about some settings the kernel needs to have. Probably that. Its okay either way though, as long as I can play somewhere.

hmm thats good to know eljoe, maybe theres a linux specific issue happening. I recall reading something about the kernel in the readme along those lines.

Anyhow all, my username is wintermute000 and I'll probably see you around Gui as those servers are pretty good IMHO

Mine is Jaybird. The Linux version runs pretty well for me; I've not had ping issues. The only thing I'm waiting on is VOIP support. It's nice in the Windows version, and it really helps gameplay.

The game isn't for everyone. If you were a fan of ET, it's a fairly natural transition.

Yes spot on mate. Now to actually figure out how to aim properly...

VOIP would really help "Can someone pls respawn with rocket launchers", "why are there 5 engineers and no turrets" or "hey what's the point of camping out near the barricade, they're already at the objective" spring to mind.

I guess I've reversed my opinion a little: VOIP is now supported! I can talk smack all I want now! And uhh.... coordinate with my team. Yeah.

Now if only the EVE Linux client didn't suck so hard...
