Thanks to the Fedora 8 team

I do not know who did what, but the soundcard on my system is now usable--I do not have to turn my speakers off. Fedora Core 6 there was an ear destroying squeal and all through Fedora 7 the squeal from hell. It did not matter how I adjust Alsa-mixer or anything else--I would have to go to a different OS -- such as Ubuntu or windows to loose the squeal -- and believe me I did go to another OS instead of Fedora. Now Fedora 8 and the squeal is gone, thank you very much.

I, too, would like to extend a hearty "thanks" to everyone involved in the Fedora project, all those people who put in their time and knowledge to provide us with a (IMO) fantastic OS.

While I appreciate some are having their share of difficulties, Fedora 8 for me has been an incredible upgrade. I had been an Ubuntu user due to its better handling of my wireless setup, but I always noticed Fedora just 'feeling' more responsive on my box...so it's been fantastic to get to install, configure, and use F8 these last few days.

Anyway, glenn, sorry to 'hijack' your thread, but I didn't want to make a wholly separate 'thank you' thread! Cheers!

Same here! AWESOME release, everything just works on my ASUS laptop (well, except the multimedia keys, but deep down I feel good for still having to tune something, or this would be too easy for a hardcore geek like myself ).

THANK YOU GUYS!

We need to support multimedia keys out of the box. Refer

I agree they should be supported... I haven't upgraded to fedora 8 yet but have it downloaded but if the new audio thing it has (forgot what it's called) can really do multiple streams instead of one thing working while another doesn't then that's awesome.. really surprised this basic stuff hasn't been implemented a long time ago but I've no clue about that stuff and maybe it just wasn't made yet

It is basic stuff alright but a lot of these hardware have their own special quirks making it difficult to handle in a good way. We do now have a good framework for that and there has been some focus on getting it to the point where it just work. Refer

And yes, Pulse Audio does support multiple streams just fine with the default configuration.
