Do not use Rawhide there is going to be a mass X breakage there has been a warning for about a month.

Tomorrow or the day after it will switch over. Hopefully two of my packages make it in.

preload, gnome-themes-extra at the moment. I have a few others on the cards but those are the first two.

Gotta create a few patches for preload first. It runs on my machine fine but it spits out info every 30 secs. Not to good.

Ouch - I'm on rawhide accidentally

I'm not sure how, but it looks like I got stuck on rawhide:

$ rpm -q fedora-release
fedora-release-8.90-3
$ yum repolist
Loading "refresh-updatesd" plugin
Loading "priorities" plugin
repo id repo name status
adobe-linux-i386 Adobe Systems Incorporated enabled
fedora Fedora 8.90 - i386 enabled
livna Livna for Fedora Core 8.90 - i386 - Base enabled

PUP found 138 updates today and I was able to install 136 of them, but now my X-windows won't start (see my response to the "INIT: id 'x' respawning too fast" thread.

I had installed FC8 Test 3 and had expected that the repositories would be set up for FC8 vs. rawhide -- my mistake.

How do I get off of Rawhide and back to FC8?

You haven't turned off your /etc/fedora-development file you need to turn this off.

Then go to a repo download the fedora-release.rpm and the fedora-release-notes.rpm. You might still have issues but just make sure you yum clear all and then yum update.

Strikeforce, thanks for the quick reply. I'm going to demonstrate my ignorance though.

I downloaded the fedora-release and fedora-release notes rpms, but when I try to do a yum localinstall or yum localupdate on the downloaded file, yum responds with:

fedora-release-8-3.noarch.rpm: does not update installed package.
Nothing to do

I'm guessing I'm missing something basic, but I don't know what it is ;-)

Now that you have changed it your livna repository you need to alter to 8 not 8.9

OK, I've done that -- I didn't think it matters since the repo was disabled.

I've tried to do a yum localupdate and yumlocalinstall on the fedora-release and fedora-release-note rps, but I get the same results.

Strikeforce, when I enter

Code:
rpm -Uhv http://mirror.anl.gov/pub/fedora/linux/releases/8/Everything/i386/os/Packages/fedora-release-8-3.noarch.rpm
I get the following response:

Code:
package fedora-release-8.90-3.noarch (which is newer than fedora-release-8-3.noarch) is already installed
