Canon CAPT drivers, SMB Printer

Hello Everyone.

I'm a little confused on printer networking.

I have an Ubuntu box setup in my living room (sorry!) with a Canon LBP5000 printer plugged in. I got the drivers installed on that and it works fine.

I'm using Fedora 7 in my office and trying to connect to that printer to print. The only way I can see to do that, is to go through all the hassle of installing the Canon CAPT drivers on the Fedora Box too - which makes me wonder if I even needed to install drivers on the server in the first place.

With the Canon CAPT drivers, if requires a device path, and a FIFO path. The FIFO path confuses me.

Is there a driver-less way of doing this? If not, how does the mechanics of it work?

I solved it

It was a permissions issue in Samba.

Re: Canon CAPT drivers, SMB Printer

Hi, can you say how you solved it? I have a bit similar situation - my LBP5100 is connected to a xp box, so printing via samba should be possible if my fedora computer knew how to print to that network share.
