Question Compaq Presario 2100 -Fedora 7

Hi

A noob here !!!

Installed Fedora 7 on Compaq Presario 2100 laptop with 256MB RAM --.

Dual boots with the original Windows XP.

The installation from the Fedora 7 DVD went without a hitch in the text mode as insufficient RAM.

The laptop boots up into a CLI mode and asks for user name etc. Once I log in, I can start the GUI with startx.

What do I need to modify, so that it boots directly into a GUI login prompt ?? The /etc/X11/xorg.conf ?? What exactly ??

Also, once the GUI comes up, how do I shut down the system. Cannot find an icon for shut down option, all I have is a logoff option under "System".

All help much appreciated.

Cheers

Unless I'm mistaken, all you have to do is tell GRUB to run rhgb and boot to runlevel 5.

try

su
gedit /etc/inittab

and make the default 5

Code:
#
# inittab This file describes how the INIT process should set up
# the system in a certain run-level.
#
# Author: Miquel van Smoorenburg, <miquels@drinkel.nl.mugnet.org>
# Modified for RHS Linux by Marc Ewing and Donnie Barnes
#

# Default runlevel. The runlevels used by RHS are:
# 0 - halt (Do NOT set initdefault to this)
# 1 - Single user mode
# 2 - Multiuser, without NFS (The same as 3, if you do not have networking)
# 3 - Full multiuser mode
# 4 - unused
# 5 - X11
# 6 - reboot (Do NOT set initdefault to this)
