Hi,

is this the new ATI open source driver? I mean, I have been reading about ATI trying to release an all-new open source driver to support the newer models with AIGLX and so on. They wanted to reveal the GPU specs and help open-sorce devs on this driver. However they were having problems with licensing as their driver contains some third-party code. So I was wondering if this is it or is this another reverse-engineered driver.

That is THE new open source driver. It's being worked on by SUSE, but at this time it's not very stable or feature complete. It's kinda like the Nouvou (spelling) driver for Nvidia at this point. I do think it's progressing somewhat quickly from what I've heard.
