Wow, those are amazing prices. Strange that the low-end unit has the biggest power supply but any one of those are heads and shoulders above the machine I have. If you do decide to order, please give some feedback - I may give it a try in a few months.

Well, like I've heard, you get what you pay for. So be sure to report back if you decide to purchase. I'm guessing recycle parts, pulls, shared video memory, etc and overall shoddy built, but let us know...

Bob,
The prices are right, I did not notice if the monitor was included. I think not.

However, AMD is supposedly bringing out quad-core desktops for Christmas, or for the early part of the new year. I am waiting for one of those.

It will also be interesting to see what Intel does for it's offerings.

My goodness, the new systems will also use ddr3, which again offers a speed increase

My problem is that my local speed increase is not matched by a similar increase from the web site, or from my keyboarding

I hope you get your wife a Christmas present with a dual core processor or better built-in.

Regards

Leslie

Mike,
I would say that you are wrong. Hardware today is way down in cost. When I bought my dual core system 15 months ago, I paid nearly 1000 dollars. Today, I can get a better system for $499.00
15mo ago 1 gig memory was 120$, today I paid for 2 gigs at $69.99 or 38.00. Processor prices are down due to competition. And the system is sold without keyboard, mouse or monitor. Add that in, plus shipping, and the price goes up by $60.00

No, I don't think that any parts are 2nd quality.

The $299 deal looks a bit crappy , but the $399 deal looks unbeatable with its NVIDIA GeForce 8500GT PCI-Express card and 2Gb of RAM

alright guys, so i got my $199.99 computer yesterday after exactly 7 days of purchasing (including weekends) it has fedora 7 preinstalled in it the 32bit, everything worked with my accessories (mouse, keyboard, bla bla) right out of the box and it loaded right in fedora with all the latest updates done to it already , you can tell all the computer parts are brand new ! nothin is been used, it even smells brand new, lol so far im so happy with it, cant beat $199 for this deal, very fast for what im doin (internet, music, documents, etc. nothin major) and on top of that, compiz and all the 3d desktop effects works out of the box and they work great with the nvidia 6100. trust me with this one you get alot for what you pay for.

i hope this has helped

here are pics i took with my cellphone right as soon as i received it

Sounds like you got the deal of the century! Keep us posted after you get a chance to play on it for awhile and let us know if it's all still good.
