Moonshine

In the last 24 hrs I have been running Moonshine on an old computer I have, 550 mhz and
330 or so mb memory.
Now I have dabbled in the past running various versions of linux but this one is
certainly good and has a similar feel to Mac sys 10, my problem is Totem on Moonshine
does not read DVDs it needs plugins for MP2, where can I get these plugins. And finally
I am presently using Tesco on a dial up modem for my windows computers is it possible
to run Tesco dial up on Fedora Moonshine.

Well, to play any sort of media files, I would recommend you get VLC. It's a media player that supports virtuallly any format, proprietary or open. Just get it via

 su -c "yum install vlc"

and I think that will get you all the codecs for it as well. And yeah, it'll play DVDs, too.

Hmmm.

For what it's worth, if you're going to keep F7~F8 on that box, start prowling the bargain bins at the computer store for more RAM. It'll give you a much more satisfying experience. It's a slow CPU to start with, and if it has to thrash the swap file for pseudo memory, it won't take long till your teeth are grinding as much as the drive is.

Either that or you might want to scrounge for some light apps that don't use many (or smaller) libs and/or lighter desktop environments. E.g. E17, Fluxbox, XFCE.

Fedora's a great distro, but I have to say... and I don't mean to blaspheme on the Fedora boards, I'd probably be running a hard drive install of Puppy or DSL (maybe even a LiveCD of SLAX) on that kind of hardware.
