FC6 i586 kernel

Hello,

Maybe a stupid question:

I have FC6 and a i586 kernel ("kernel-2.6.18-1.2868.fc6.i586"). I want to upgrade to the i686 kernel. I have downloaded the new kernel with "yumdownloader kernel.i686", and now I want to install the new kernel with "rpm -ivh kernel-2.6.22.9-61.fc6.i686.rpm"

Now my question: If I update the kernel do I need to reinstall all my programs that I have installed (rpm and tar.gz)? It is a running server with VMWare installed on it.

And an other question, I would like to go to 6Gb RAM, so I think I will need to install the kernel-PAE. Is it better to do this in one time, going directly van kernel.i586 to kernel-PAE.i686 or not? Do I need to reinstall all my programs when I go from the current kernel to the PAE kernel?

Kind regards
Maarten
