forgot root password, how to reset?

I've forgot the root password on one of my machines. Is there any way to reset the root password without having to reinstall the whole os?

Boot to runlevel 1 and type the word "passwd" without the quotes....

to boot into runlevel 1 when the grub splash screen starts press E to edit your bootline and append either a 1 or the string single onto the end of it

Question Fedora8 login: Paword:

Hi. I have installed fedora 8 warewolf, made root password. Fedora asks for login and password. Why ??? It was not asked for during instalation.
What to do ?? I installed in text mode.

root password is OK. Where do I set username and password when using # login command??

It worked to do so after started startx from prompt
