Anyone know the name of this Book?

A while ago, I read a cool story about a retarded guy and a mouse who underwent the same experience to increase they're brain size.

Long story short, the experiment was a success, both the guy and the mouse got smarter. The guy became so smart even, that he became famous, got a girlfriend, etc...Just lived a normal successful life. The only downside, of the experiment was that it was temporary.

he soon drifted back into his crazed state, and the woman whomed he shared this time went, and to watch him go back into a child-like condition in front of her eyes.

It was very good. I think the title had something to do with his pet mouse.

anyone know?

There were several movies with the similar plot...I remember one with Cliff Montgomery called "Charly"(1968)...though not the movie you were talking about, it is probably the original it was based upon...just without the mouse part.
yup it is a old movie...just showing my age

Maybe you're thinking of Montgomery Clift, who was not in that movie ?
Then we have "lawnmower man", one of the worst movies ever made which did not feature elliot gould !
