How can MessageTag be defeated?

Does anyone know about MessageTag, at msgtag.com ? It appears to be a notification system whereby email senders are notified when emails are read.

Does anyone know how this system may be defeated? I prefer not to have such notification sent.

My email client is evolution, but I would change to another client if necessary to circumvent this notification.

Thanks,
Phil

Here's some info on how these types of services actually work:

http://ask-leo.com/do_email_tracking_services_work.html

There are two very large problems with this technique:

* It works only with HTML or "Rich text" email.
* It works only if users have "display images" enabled.

That last point is particularly telling. Most email programs now default to not displaying images in email. The recipient has to enable it, often by adding the sender's email address to the list of "trusted" senders.

But if the image is not displayed, then the email cannot be tracked. It's just that simple.

Thanks for the info, markupstart.

It seems like it's one damn thing after another.

Truth is, an occasional business associate of mine sent me a couple of emails with this crap in them. My first reaction is, it's none of anybody's damn business when or if I read their email. To hell with them. My second reaction, is, this is the spammer's best friend. It verifies active email addresses. My third and final reaction is, all email containing this link goes in the bit bucket without me even seeing it.

I do see that turning off image downloading will defeat the notification.

What new form of idiocy will be next?

Phil
