HP Color Laserjet 2600n Printer not working on Fedora 7

Recently I have purchased one HP 2600n color laser jet printer. I am running Fedora 7. Cups is identifying the printer properly, but the jobs submitted for printing always remain in que. Even the printer test page is not printing and is on que for the last many days. Can someone tell me what to do.

@Samal, Make sure you have the hplip driver package installed

yum list hplip

(package might be hp-lip not sure)
then run your printer configurationg to make sure all is setup right.

@BoyWonder410, I believe you should be able to just run

Code:

system-config-printers

then hit add printer and it SHOULD pick it right up for you.

thanks for the response.
The printer automatically installs itself when I plug it in.

the description in system-config-printers is
Generic PCL 6/PCL XL Printer Foomatic/pxlmono

the device uri is
usb://Lexmark%20International/Lexmark%20E238

I try printing a test page and it will not work.
I try printing from open office, firefox or gedit and it shows in the printer spool, but never sends to the printer. print status is "processing". None of the lights on the printer blink to indicate that it has recieved any data.

A different laptop plugged into the printer will make it print.

A different printer plugged into my laptop will print. (although, I can't use that one for what i need to do)

system-config-printer is installed. F7 recognizes the printer the moment it is connected but when a page is given for it to print is says the printer may not be connected. What to don now?

Interesting... I have the same printer hooked up to a windows XP computer upstairs. The printer is shared and I'm using samba to connect to it and all is working well. I used the Generic Postscript drivers (cups) and all seems to be working well.

On WINDOWS-XP HP 2600n Laser Printer is working fine after I load the drivers provided by HP. Interestingly HP is giving drivers only for WIINDOWS and Macintosh machines only. There are no drivers for Linux on the CD provided by HP.

The difficulty I am facing is after configuring the printer with the GUI interface system-config-printer there is no further progress.

I tried
System>adminstration>users and groups
but there is no lp box to check.

I am having F7 on an Pentium HT machine but I keep updating the softwares once every now and then by "yum".

It appears that the site referred by you howtoforge.com may provide some clues.

I have two printers connected to two usb ports and one scanner connected to another usb port. Of all only one HP Desk jet 5748 gets automatically identified and workes excellently. However both the other devices HP Colour Laser Jet 2600n and HP Scanner do not work.

I always keep getting the message Printer 'HP_Colour_Laserjet_2600n' may not be connected
and
The when I use xsane to scan i just get black and hazy gray bands.

Is it that only one usb printer is supported?

I have tried to identify the printers manually. Futher the command lsusb to identify the usb bus ID and usb device ID is not on my system. I tried "yum install lsusb" but no use?

I have downloaded the latest hplip package version 2.7.12. But when I cd to the directory any type hplip-install it says commend not found. How to install this new software?

I had the some problem when i installed my HP Color Laserjet CM1015! I just removed all the automatic configurations made by the system and configured the printer with the HP Device Manager. Now the printer has the "device_uri" and "cups_uri" as "hp:/usb/HP_ColorLaserJet_CM1015?serial=xxxxxxxxxx", The PPD/Driver that i am using is HP Color LaserJet CM1015 Postscript and it works ok in my Fedora 7.

I installed HPLIP from http://hplip.sourceforge.net/index.html and the version i am using for HPLIP is V2.7.10 and Device Manager Software V11.0.

One more thing, there is no support for the scanning function!

I've had problems installing my HP Office Jet 7410. They were all solved by logging in as root and using the KDE Control Center: Peripherals>Printers>Add Printer.

I assume there is some similar utility in the other desktop environments, but the key seems to be logging in as root.

INSTALLATION OF HP2600n DRIVER – foo2zjs 2 May 2008

HPLIP does not support printer HP 2600n but rkkda does. Go to http://foo2hp.rkkda.com
Installation procedure for Fedora 7 are as follows: (My HP 2600n is connected to NETWORK NOT USB)

AT THE PRINTER:
press buttons: “BB” + “<” + “<” + “BB” + “<” + “BB” (You shd be at network config TCP/IP config)
press buttons: “>” to change from Auto to manual (BB = Blue Button, < = Left Tri-angle Button
change IP Address to 192.168.1.111 (> = Right Tri-angle Button)
SubNet Mask 255.255.255.0 (press BB to accept and Orange X to cancel)
Default Gateway 192.168.1.1 (I choose 111 cos it is at middle range of IP
Address n also easy to remember)

NOTE: your IP address, Gateway etc may be different depand on your router used.......)

AT COMPUTER with Feroda 7 Linux system, do the following

start with root and root password (use Terminal or Ctrl + Alt + F1)
Data will be load to /root/Desktop (ie Cd /root/Desktop before you start)

# wget -O foo2zjs.tar.gz http://foo2zjs.rkkda.com/foo2zjs.tar.gz (-O capital O not zero)
# tar zxf foo2zjs.tar.gz
# cd foo2zjs
# make uninstall (optional, in case U want to uninstall previous installation)
# yum install gcc (I got an error if go make directly)
# make (if error occur that gcc not install, then install gcc FIRST)
# ./getweb 2600n (get .ICM file, it takes a few minutes so wait for it to download)
# make install

Now go back to GNOME (Ctrl+Atl+F7 if you used Ctrl + Alt + F1 previously)
1.Log in as root privilege
2.System / Administration / Printing / Add New Printer
3.Enter Printer Name, Description and Location then FORWARD
4.Click AppSocket/HP JetDirect // HostName: 192.168.1.111 (IP Address U used) // Port No: 9100
5.choose HP then FORWARD // choose Color LaserJet 2600n
6.Choose Driver: 3-distribution/foo2zjs/HP-Color_LaserJet_2600n.ppd.gz

You should get Device URI: socket://192.168.1.111:9100
Make and Model: HP Color LaserJet 2600n Foomatic/foo2hp (recommended)

then go to Printer Options change Color Mode to “COLOR”

Now U can print a test page.....set default printer, paper size etc.......
