Dell D830 Intel 4965 wireless install help?

I have a new D830 and I just can't seem to get the Intel4965 wireless to show up in the Network Configuration GUI.

I run lsmod and I see
mac80211 160081 1 iwl4965
cfg80211 18257 1 mac80211

If I run modprobe 80211 I get no errors.

Kernel v2.6.22.9-91.fc7

I've been through so many posts on this and other forums I think I've read them all....of course I have no idea, however it sounds like I do NOT have to follow the instructions at intellinuxwireless.org any longer, because the latest version of the kernel has support, although its hard to say because posts from different dates are contradictory.

That said, I don't see the 4965 in the list when I try to add a new wireless device in the network config gui.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

i'm pretty sure that kernel has the driver, but you also need the firmware files. make sure you have iwl4965-firmware-4.44.1.18-2 installed. I just went through this on my T61, and it works well.

At the risk of sounding like a retard, how do I install the firmware files? I apparently am doing something wrong since the wireless doesn't work and doesn't show up as available, but I honestly don't know what the hell I'm doing(first time installing linux since 2000...) other than being relatively good at using google and following detailed instructions. I've googled this topic for a while now, but I haven't found a working answer probably because it is so basic that the average user is able to figure this out without requiring a post to the forum. Anyone out there willing to help a lost linux beginner out?

Thanks!

Open up a terminal and as root issue the command.
Code:
yum install iwl4965-firmware.noarch
After that the firmware should be installed.

How did you get Fedore to intslall in the first place. We continue to have problems with it not installing the Kernel after it installs all the apps.
