low sound on videos/dvd

when i play dvds or videos from my computer the sound is real low compared to when i play mp3s or games why is this?

what player are you using ? Some players like mplayer or xine use PCM for volume instead of the master, you can change this by going through the settings and setting the mixer output to Master instead of PCM. Also check the PCM slider in alsamixer or whatever mixer you use and if it is low turn it up.

i use vlc and the pcm volume was down but when i put it up its still low, i tried mplayer and it does the same, my mp3s are alot lowder
