Microphone problem - throughput on speakers, but no playback?

Using FC7 64bit KDE. Sound device is alc882 which is intel HDA. I plugged in my mic, and get throughput on the speakers. Even with audacity, I get a response from the level-meters, yet on playback there is no sound. Also the sound file does not record anything, though the level meters show voume changes.

Capture seems to be enabled in KMix and Alsamixer as far as I can tell. Anyone have any ideas what could be preventing recording? Maybe this isn't a hardware problem, but I'm really not sure what's causing the problem.

Same problem here.
In another FC7 I solved it (specially using skype) passing from ALSA to OSS. But I haven't been that lucky here...

I experience a similar problem using Audacity in Gnome of Fedora 7. To get it to work I have to disable the ESD sound daemon (system sounds) to get Audacity to function. I don't know what sound daemons KDE uses, but maybe this info will point you in the right direction.
