Can't play video from a windows share

This has probably been answered a million time, but having tried a fair few of the suggestions on this and other sites without success I though I would ask the question outright.

I have an F7 machine which is running samba and connects to a share on a windows machine on the local network without problem.

If from F7 machine I open a window showing the files on the XP machine and I double click an AVI file I get a 'dont have the correct plugin to run the file from that location' error message.

However, if I drag and drop the file onto the desktop of the F7 machine and run it from there, I get no error message.

I have followed all the guides and set up what i think are all the correct plugins but i still get the same problem,

Any ideas ?
