If it's Flash player:

http://www1.freewebs.com/dnmouse/flashplugin.htm

If it's something else, you might get it working in Wine.

If you're running Gnome (or KDE) you can create a second Panel at the bottom and set it not to expand, adjust the width to your liking and drag the application icons of your choice onto it. There's also gDesklets for Gnome that has a widget for a Mac-like bar and there's prolly something like it in Superkaramba for KDE (part of kdeutils) If you have something like Beryl installed, there's also AWN. Your good friend Google, or a past search through the forum will turn them all up

Using a second Panel in Gnome:

Using gDesklets:

As mentioned, Avant Window Manager (AWN) is a really nice osx-like bottom menu (http://awn.wetpaint.com/) - you need to build it from source if you want the best functionality.

Kiba-dock is another nice one (http://www.kiba-dock.org/).

Both require a composite manager of some kind. I use xcompmgr because it's lightweight and I find Beryl and Compiz incredibly unstable on my video card.

gdesklets has a nice menu applet, but I have found problems making transparency work properly in gdesklets.

Using the standard gnome panel but making it not auto-expand is probably a lot easier, but doesn't give quite the same effect!

Thanks, I knew there was one more option (Kiba-dock) but I had trouble remembering the name. One of those senior moments

Beryl/Compiz don't work on my ancient/antique hardware either, but I'd never heard of xcompmgr until now. I may investigate further.

The OP has plenty of options to look into now.

Wayne, I use "/usr/bin/xcompmgr -n" very reliably for composite and transparency support without the need for beryl or compiz or compiz-fusion. It can also do some nice shadow and fade effects very reliably too.

Thanks for the extra info. I don't want to hijack the OP's thread so if I need further info I'll start a new one. Unless of course, the OP is also interested

Cheers
