Dlink DWL G122 H/W C1 and Firmware 3.00 - Getting it to work with FC7

I am unsure how to get this device to work with FC7 - Do I go the NDiswrapper path or use the RT73 software

Thanks

go to:
http://rt2x00.serialmonkey.com/wiki/index.php/Downloads

download rt73 (USB), untar and as a root copy firmware
cp rt73-cvs-2007092403/Module/rt73.bin /lib/firmware

reboot your machine and enjoy. I am using NetworkManager for connecting and no probs ...

RT73.bin is in /lib/firmware

Have downloaded, installed and started NetworkManager but it only sees the wired network

ifconfig, iwlist etc do not recognise the wlan0

The link light on the dongle flashes every 5 secs

How do I get the system to recognise the wireless environment

Any further clues

Thanks

Goto system ->administration ->network, click on "new", "wireless", is your wireless card listed in the list? Select it and continue to configure the card.....

Thanks Iron_Mike

My network card is not in the list and / or I am unable to identify a close match

I get the feeling that I have not told the system about the wireless environment

I am unable to modprobe the rt73 module to load it into the kernel - says can't be found

Similarly when I use NetworkManager, it only sees a wired network and I can't introduce it to the wireless

I am also looking at the steps ausadl recommended but alas to no avail

Thanks again - I've done that and I cannot identify a USB device even after a reboot - the wired Lan is OK

Is the wireless connection going to be ethx or wlanx ?

I think I've missed a step in the process

Do I go back to the beginning with the the Serial Monkey tar and work through that or am I close to activating it

check your dmesg output, look for rt73usb and check if any errors there.

mine says:
...
usbcore: registered new interface driver rt73usb
...

Yeah, when my KNetworkManager starts (manually Start->System->KNetworkManager) I can see my wireless network. Not sure what else to check as I really just copied the firmware and that was it. Am I just that lucky? :-)

same mate, FC7, with all updates ..., have you tried the output from dmesg? any errors there? watch the log while trying to connect to see what problems occur there. As a root run in the Konsole
tail -f /var/log/messages.
