PS3 gmplayer issues

Hi,

Please be patient with me, I am newb. Anyhow I have been able to successfully update my kernel from the 8.31 CELL Add-ON CD. I have also been able to install mplayer and gmplayer. I am also connected to a vista share. My issue is with gmplayer I am able to play divx and xvid no issues what so ever. WIth the mkv though the sound lags, other ppl have said their's plays flawlessy.

So Please Help, if you desire.

One more issue I have once I start a video in gmplayer the right hand menu doesn't come up anymore. I did have successfully come up once. But haven't had any success yet.

Thanks,

Carlos

Also, I have SSH setup and VNC. I say all this in case someone else needs help I'd be more then Happy to point you into the right place.

Thaks,
Again.

Have you tried using VLC Media Player to play your mkv files?

That is the funny thing I installed vlc player but it would not even play xvids, so I didn't even try mkvs. I'll give it a shot. Is there something I am missing for vlc.

I did.

yum install vlc

should I have done

yum install video-lan client or something like that ?

Maybe it is my resolution I am running at. I did modify the xorg.conf to run at 720p. I also change my yaboot.conf to out at 720 full screen(131).

xorg.conf modifcations can be found here:

I am using full-screen 720p (mode 131). I have vlc 0.8.6c-4.lvn7 installed from the Livna repo. I just tested several different avi's, mpg, mkv, mov, wmv, mp4, divx ... all appear to be playing properly windowed and full-screen. If you want you can PM me a link to a specific video you're having trouble with and I'll let you know if it works.

You can try starting from the command line by entering vlc [filename], like vlc myvideo.mkv

I installed vlc using yum install vlc after adding the livna repo. I am using only livna and dribble in addition to the default repos, and not freshrpms.

I'm currently running this kernel version: 2.6.22.5-76.fc7

I'm still running with the same services disabled that I mentioned in the post you're referring to.

I haven't played with mplayer much since vlc is working for me.

K, I installed vlc again. I figure out you can't run vlc as root, because there will be no video displayed wired, but whatever. Anyhow vlc plays divx and xvid way more smoothley than mplayer.

I installed yum using yumex. From the command line I only use the linva repo, besides the default. Yumex has a few more, did really take notes which ones.

The kernel I am using is the following:

http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kern...0817.ppc64.rpm

I notice your not running a linux kernel, I woder if that has any effect.

In terms of videos that I am trying to play there just downloads from newsgroups. Like 720p tv shows, in an mkv conatainer. Vlc did not successfuly play these either, a lot lag and breaking out of sound.

Please correct me if I am wrong but your able to successfully play HD video (720p) in mkv, and mp4 and avi containers without any issue. Or with the minor hiccup. Either one is good for me, but right now it is just practically completley stalls.

I'll have to look for some more video files to test ... all the ones I have are working fine.

EDIT: So far I'm NOT able to play any 720p mkv files in VLC ... audio works but video stalls on the first frame. Lower resolution videos I have tried work without problems.
