Smile Audio Video drivers for fedora 7

Hello all,
I have dual boot with fedora 7 & windows Xp on my laptop. I use rhythmbox, mplayer, totem-xine for music and video. The sound volume is low in linux as compared to the windows XP on same machine. I changed the volume settings in the rhythmbox, mplayer to the maximum, but it was of very little use. Is it because I need good audio drivers for linux, if so which one should I download.
While watching videos, for some it is too bright & for some it is dark and just not pleasing to watch. The same video when watched in Windows XP is coming good. I changed the brightness setting of the LCD to a minimum value. Is it because of the video player, if so can you suggest a good video player, with which you can change the video setting like brightness, contrast of the movie being watched.
Thank you

I'm pretty happy w/ standalone xine (not totem) for video; but there are a lot of controls in the
inner panels. There are quite a few volume controls involved so right click the uppoer panel speaker
crtl and select "open volume control" . You'll see tha tseveral vol controls are involved - bump the
PCM.

Also see if your graphics card has a control
fglrx_xgamma --help
nvidia-settings
==
Make sure that xine and the other apps are using alsa.
