When I try to connect to my server using ftp sometimes it connects immediately. Other times it times out. Once it is in the timeout mode it doesn't care what times I have set for the timeouts. It simply tries over and over until ftp Voyager, my ftp program, gives up. I am using PASV.
Tracert shows there's no problem, SSH and web browsing work fine. My webhost has suggested that I load the ip_conntrack_ftp kernel module if I'm running a firewall.
I'm not sure if a firewall is running but I do see "Linux Firewall" in the Networking section of Webmin, which I use to manage my server. IPTables Firewall in the same area says "Configuration file not defined." I do not know if ip_conntrack_ftp kernel module has already been loaded. I have no idea how to see what kernel modules are loaded and web searching has proven fruitless in discovering this.
I use Webmin to manage my dedicated server so:
1) How can I find out if a firewall is running?
2) How can I tell what Kernel Modules are running?
3) What is ip_conntrack_ftp and what does it do?
4) Is loading this module likely to fix my problem?
Any help would be appreciated.
