Starcraft in Wine... slowdowns?

So I recently picked up Starcraft again, to replay some of the single player campaigns, I remember that game play was bit chunky, but I certainly don't remember massive slowdowns, could anyone confirm? (maybe it is a problem local to my setup or something)

Well, searching through the WineHQ threads, I found out that for optimum performance in Starcraft (and pretty much any other application/game requiring 8-bit color), you need to add an 8-bit Sectoin "Display" to your xorg.conf file... Additionally you should make the .exe run in Windows98 mode... I'm not sure if you have to do some more tweaking of the registry as it would seem that you have to edit HKCU/Software/Wine/AppDefaults/Starcraft.exe/X11Drv/ and add a key there ScreenDepth with value 8... Others suggest to run the game with OpenGL instead of GDI to draw the 2D scene by means of adding the string key DirectDrawRenderer to HKCU/Software/Wine/Direct3D/ with value opengl. I'm about to test this one (before it had no effect, actually wine crashed... Edit it still crashes).

I just tried Starcraft on my PS3 running F7 PPC using QEMU 0.9.0 / Win98 / DirectX 6.1 ... I didn't play past the first mission, but everything appears to be running properly. The mouse is a little sluggish in the menus but other than that its playable.

Here's a screenshot

I'm installing Fedora 7 x86 on my PC (Pentium D 955 EE CPU) sometime this weekend... I'm sure it will run better on that.
