Fedora 7 freeze when switching from console

I used FC6 on this Laptop for a long time.
After installing Fedora 7 there is following problem:
With Alt-F1 i can switch to the console, but when i try to switch back to the X-server the screen gets black and the machine freezes completely - no login from another computer possible, there are no activities on the HDD and no entries to logs. I can only switch of by pressing the power button for 5s.
Hardware:
IBM Thinkpad X22: PIIIM-800MHz 640MB Ram, ATI Radeon Mobility M6 LY (=ATI Mobility Radeon 7000), with the standard Xorg radeon module.
I have tried some changes in the xorg.conf but can't find a solution. The problem also exists when i try the Fedora 7-live-CD, so i think that my changes in the configuration are not the cause of the problem.
Any tips or suggestion what i can try to find a solution?

Thanks
doozer

BTW: Because of this problem i also cant use the suspend to RAM function anymore (worked in FC6) - the laptop wakes up, and when it switch back to the xserver it freeze...
