Xorg.conf getting updated

This is happening on a few FC6 installs. The xorg.conf file is getting modified many times per day. The line:

# Comment all HorizSync and VertSync values to use DDC:

gets added over and over again. I'll bet I've removed about 700 of them. Also, the file has been set to perms 444 (read only), and it STILL gets modified!

Does anyone know why this is happening, or how to stop it?

Thanks

The file gets modified because the install/update process run with root privileges, and root can override anything. Well, not if SELinux is enabled, but this is another history.

Maybe there are a problem with the rpm installation script. May be you can stop it checking with:

ps aux

and then see if rpm process is runing. Kill them but maybe you then will have a not synchonized database of installed packages.

That can't be it. I do not have the auto update daemon turned on.

What is funny, when I searched this forum for the line that is being added, I got tons of hits, but all were just from a non-related issues. People had posted their xorg.conf files, and the same thing seems to be happening to many of you....you just haven't noticed yet. Look at your xorg.conf file. How many entries of:
### Comment all HorizSync and VertSync values to use DDC:

do you have?
