It won't shut down!

Hello. I installed the nvidia drivers yesterday, and since then every time I try to shut down my laptop it will freeze displaying only the background. I don't know if the drivers have something to do or if it was just the timing. Everything else works great. Any ideas??

I think it is trying to go in single user mode
so plz inter any key from your keyboard if it will show "#" cmd prompt then again write "init 0"

if u get black screen then press escape button, then most probaly you get last line as--"system halted"

after the command sync;sync;sync/sbin/halt

if u get so then u can safly turn off your system.

I get this recently that's why i reply it now.

or maybe he could try and find out what the actual issue is and fix that instead of using some ridiculous work around....

you say this behavior started when you installed new display drivers? did it work normally before?

what happens if you remove the drivers from the system?

what happens if you run init 0 as root in a terminal?

whats the output from lspci (grep for your device) dmesg (grep for your driver)?

the X11 config that is loading, executing the drivers, and shutting down the Xserver?

what is the output of your xorg.0.log file?

blittle.....the problem occurs when I activate the desktop effects. I have been reading a lot of posts about desktop effects and shutting down problems and it appears that there is no solution. Do you know how to fix this?? I will keep my desktop effects off until I find a solution because it is really annoying not being able to shut down correctly. Thanks,
Toti
