Can't see any machines on wired network

Running FC6 on a Siemens Scenic.
Win XP on a crock.
Both machines connected to an Internet router acting as DHCP server and primary DNS.

Ping works perfectly from all 3 units - Internet access from both machines.
Linux m/c :- "Connection information" (from connection icon top-right) and 'ifconfig' correct.
XP m/c :- "Local area connection" information and "ipconfig /all" correct.

I cannot see any problems / errors with the hardware - it all seems to be functioning correctly but,
the Linux machine cannot 'see' itself or the XP machine on the LAN and
the XP machine only 'sees' itself.

Anybody any ideas what I've missed ? (yes, another noobie !)
