How to install Fedora under VMware???

I am using Windows XP pro SP2 now, and I want to install Fedora for learning Linux system, I am a new guy to Linux and actually I know nothing about it. I want to intall Fedora Linux with a vitural machines created by VMware, but I found in the creating process, there's no option for Fedora to choose.

So then I just choose RedHat Linux, is this OK?

Petercn

I am using VMware workstation 6.0

Yes, that will work just fine.

Any generic linux option will work but since Fedora is Red Hat based go with that one.

Have fun.

Hi Dies,

i don't know how to install it, so I just put the DVD in my DVD-ROM and then everything will go just like install it in a new machine, yeah, first I open that vitrual machine.

Now I installed nothing, so when I open the VM, I got' No operating system installed'.

Petercn,

You will have to have the Fedora disk in the drive and you will have to have the virtual machine set to boot from the cd.

A faster way is to create an ISO image of the Fedora disk and then then setup the CDROM drive in your virtual machine to use the ISO file. Installs are super fast that way.

Let me know where you are having problems, I work extensively with VMWare at work.

You can download a VMWare virtual machine image with Fedora 7 pre-installed from http://www.bagside.com/bagvapp/
