Unhappy Modem connects but I can't browse on the internet

Hi, I just switched from Ubuntu to Fedora7. Since there are no high speed cable internet solutions available in my area, I must config my system to connect both through my analog modem and my cell phone. I configured both KPPP and wvdial for that. The mobile phone modem connection is ok, but I'm not able to get the connection through my 56k to work. With both wvdial & kppp the modem dials the number, does the handshaking, starts pppd and retrieves the system's and dns' ip addresses from the server. At this point i'm pretty sure I should able to go on the internet (like with my mobile phone), but it doesn't. If I ping the dns servers they answer, but if I try for example
Code:
ping www.libero.it
or
Code:
traceroute www.libero.it
the console doesn't show anything (like if it can't resolve hostnames) and i have to break the command with CTRL+C. Any clue?

check resolv.conf: it should list your dns - if not, add them manually

Hi, I checked resolv.conf and strangely found inside this content:
Code:
nameserver 213.230.128.222
nameserver 213.230.129.94
nameserver 213.230.155.94
This is pretty strange, since I've never modified this file, or specified DNS servers elsewhere. Maybe KPPP inserted them on my first connection through my mobile? This would explain why my mobile connection got no problem, too.
Anyway, I solved the problem adding the "disable local nameservers" option in kppp... I'll look forward to solve the problem once for all this evening.
Thanks for the clue!

Cellphone connection problem

Hi,

about your first post ornto.....u said u got it connecting through your cellphone and had no probs....well i think i hav the same problem with my cellphone you are having with your modem.i am running fedora 7. i configured it using wvdial. it is basically a gprs conection and the phone connects when i run wvdial(i can tell from the phone screen) and i get the the remote ip and the dns and everything....but when i run the brwser nothing happens....am i supposed to enter some proxy address? in windows i dint have to enter any proxy. it is a direct connection which all the browsers detect automatically. is there anything else i shud be doing for the cellphone? and could u update this thread if you figure it out. thanks.
