How many of you have been able to completely switch your "ENTIRE" platform over to Linux??? And, if not able to do so completely, what situations prevent you from doing so... i.e. applications / programs of neccessity???
The only situation keeping me from completely switching, is a fuller line-up of graphics / drawing programs.....

Lots of material on this subject here:

You might be surprised that many of us have left MS behind. I dont need them for anything. My wife still does though. At the end of the day you will use what you have to.

I just did a term paper on Aurelius Augustine. Fascinating guy, though his doctrine on predestination is a little shaky.

I've been completely Windows free for a couple of years now. Even got the boss to let me use Linux on my workstation at work, which was a challenge, as I had to figure out how to make some of our proprietary apps run in WINE.

I'm 100% Debian GNU/Linux!

P.S.: But I hope to be 100% NetBSD some day.

To be honest, I would like to be 100% a Linux user, BUT unfortunately I do not have all the tools I need on a Linux platform. For instance, tools for graphics as someone mentioned above, web design tools, some special VPN client and tools I'm forced to use and may be one of the most important aspects ... gaming.

Replacements ... gaming emulation works some time, but not in many cases and you have to go a long way to achieve something; I'm not such a big user of web design or graphics tools but they are needed once in a while; the special applications I need for work are in course of being ported under Linux .

I'm waiting for the moment when software development firms will provide applications for Linux not only Windows, even if the applications are not free or open source.

This is one of the things Im trying to get worked on... either more artistic programs, or an entire distro dedicated to graphics........

Well, I just got Grafpup running on the pc, everything is set up.... Looks pretty good. Not something I would want to use full time..... This is my point, This is nice, but I'd rather see all this stuff in the repositories for fedora 7 (which it may well be in) But I know it's not in PC Linux (which is my main use distro
But I am going to mess around with this for a bit and check it all out..... I am wriiting this from "Grafpup iso"

Geminiguy, please dont take this wrong because we were all there once too. But your perspective is going to change once you really learn the ropes. What I mean is you are placing way too much emphasis on what any given distro contains. Linux is Linux. If any program works in any Linux distro you can make it work in ALL linux distros! Instead of wasting your time chasing your tail looking for that "perfect" distro you need to find the one you are most comfortable with. Which package style, rpm or deb, which package manager. These are really the only things that cant EASILY be changed distro to distro. Yet you can use apt-get in Fedora! Things like Gnome vs. KDE vs anything else? Who cares? You can change this. You can change wallpapers and themes and fonts. The Fedora repos are loaded with apps, but if you need something special you should easily find an RPM or worst case just compile it. It aint hard at all. All the puppy linux stuff is lightweight. It is a beautiful distro but I am with you, I wouldnt want to run it full time. I could. But I want a full fledged distro, one I have tweaked for me. See, unlike Windows, where you are stuck with the house MS builds you, in Linux you can build your own house. MS fanboys will argue that they can change their themes, their wallpaper, their fonts...But can they change their DE? Their package manager? They can change the carpet and drapes but they cant build on a new room! Dont think of it as "Fedora" or "PCLOS" or "debian"...Think of it as linux. Pick a distro, any distro and learn LINUX. Then you will have the freedom to easily move around from one distro to the next and you will see they are all the same and you will be equally comfortable typing "sudo" or "su". Linux distros are fun to play with, to explore the different flavors, what different people think the perfect OS should be. Just dont place too much importance in a flavor, because it is all Linux.

The only copy of Windows I had was my laptop's, anyway it was used very randomly. Recently, a problem with the hard drive forced me to delete its partition and I don't miss Windows at all.

I am 99% Linux Fedora now.
Why not 100%?
Because DVD Shrink is bloody good, and I do not want to install Wine only for the purpose of running that single application.

100% for a couple of years now. Not a thing that I miss from the Windows days (and before). Honestly though, linux has advanced so much in the last few years that it surpasses my memories of any Windows programs. Perhaps if I'd been using Windows more recently, there would be some programs that I'd hate to give up, guess I'll never know now.
