help with purchase

hello everyone,

i'm planning to buy a laptop this month. i'm planning to install F7 in it.
i have already read a few posts in the forums like this one,
http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?t=157905
which shows people having probs with installing or using fedora in their newly bought laptops.

Now, since i'm buying one exclusively to have fedora installed in it, i would want to buy one that does not make my life miserable.

So, can i get a few tips to buying a "linux compatible" laptops, or a few recommendations on a few such laptops, or if you own a laptop that you think i must not go for, plz reply...

Why not buy that Dell laptop that would have Ubuntu loaded. Junk that and Fedora the clunker.

Go for an intel machine. The intel integrated video has good free drivers so you won't have any messing around.

Intel and Dell hardware are usually very compatible with Linux - I've rarely had problems. One thing to watch out for is wireless -- Atheros or Intel cards work well in Linux once you install the firmware or madwifi.

Talking

if you want fedora 7 preinstalled you can go to a third party company
like
www.linux-laptop.net
a third party would have hp ,toboshisa , ibm , dell all set up with the choices of os

if it was my choice i would go for a hp

hp are much stronger and durrible than dell i know i have two dell laptops they alway break

if you were advance user i would mod the os to make it work with labtop i have done it on dell but wireless was probly the hardest to set up

if you get a dell get a good warrenty and tech support plan

I know that if you want to get a Dell/Ubuntu preinstall you will pay more for it. So I would get the best Dell/Vista deal as you will get more for your money and you can always install the Linux distro of your choice.

Another thing to consider is what part of the Planet you reside on as Dell/Ubuntu is highly regional in availability, maybe U.S only at this time.

I have a Sony VGN-N220E that is dual booting F7/Vista and it has been relatively painless. It was a breeze to install initially with FC6 then clean installed F7 when it came out. Done all of the repartitioning from within Vista with the "disk management tool" Shrunk the NTFS partition and left the area where I was going to install Fedora as "unallocated freespace".

Popped in the FC6 DVD ran the installer and when it came to the part of where, what and how to install Fedora I selected to install in "unallocated freespace" and let Anaconda proceed. I did not choose very many extra packages from the default install as there would be a mess of updates to deal with.
