Mouse Blocked under startX

OS Fedora 7 cleanly installed on a Compaq Presario 1830
The Presario has a touchPad that allows me control under startx
but all mouse signals are ignored.
Before I run startX the touchpad allow a cursor block to be moved around the screen
and moving the mouse provides psmouse.c messages like
psmouse.c: issuing reconnect request
psmouse.c: TouchPad at isa0060/serio1/input0 lost sync at byte 1
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So I know Fedora sees the mouse and the touchpad
But after StartX is launched, only the Touchpad works,
and not the mouse.

Somewhere I recall giving a command like
append psmouse.proto=imps
when running SUSE but I forgot when this command was keyed in

Under Fedora 7 running within startX
is it possbile to have both the TouchPad and the Mouse concurrently active ?
That was the capability under Microsoft Windows 2K

If not both then I would like to have the mouse active
(Intellimouse 1.1 A PS/2 Compatible)
and the TouchPad either active or inactive.

My Sony laptop has both touchpad and wireless mouse functioning in F7 and both worked with FC6. I'll have to check the xorg.conf file and see what it says then post the results here.

WOW! I was really excited and hopeful when I read the suggestion below.
Suggestion - (Add "psmouse.proto=imps" in your boot sequence,
i.e. :edit /etc/grub.conf and add this option.
But it didn't work!
I do know that the mouse is always being sensed since I hear a HD click whenever the mouse is moved or a button is pressed!
The problem of course is that the mouse has no linkage to the screen cursor!

Help please.

Can you borrow another mouse and try it? Not a fix for you problem but may be a reasonable alternative until one arrives.

Nice thought. Neither mouse works. startX is not responding to the mouse interrupts.
