kernel 2.6.22.1-27.fc7 and fglrx rpm's and colour striping on screen

I have installed the latest kernel and fglrx xorg and kmod from livna and all went well.
However, when I enter runlevel 3 or try to move to any of the F1-F6 consoles I get the screen of striped colours. If I move console I can F7 back to X, to get a display but if I init 3 then it seems my only choice is a reboot.
Does anybody know the fix so I can use the consoles, I'm guessing I need to change something in xorg.conf.
